survival strategies for newcomers

About

This website is collection of up to date links where you can get official support for migrants. Official, run either by NGOs or by government, not by gossips from social media friends. Some of the pages require you to translate from German, though most of the people who work in the organizations mentioned speak some English, or they connect you to someone who does. You just need to act as German, thus book an appointment and precisely state what is the problem you want to get solved.

So why to live in Berlin? It's the cheapest and coolest capital in Europe. And very eco, too. Fresh air and lots of trees make it the best place to walk through.

However, be warned. No big industry is placed here, thus the job opportunities are very limited. What's more, the English is not enough. To go deeper you need to speak German. It is the only language spoken in everyday life, with the landlords, public authorities and most companies in Germany.

Berlin has already become the goal of European mobility flows. People from all over Europe come to the German capital to pursue a new profession. As a result, the working conditions in the city and thus the work experience of all participants may vary. Berlin serves as the office for many international companies, so the workplace can be diverse. Especially the multinationals use English language, but also Berlin-based start-ups use it as lingua franca. The clash of different work styles and cultures offers many opportunities for personal development and enrichment. But Germany's urban art and cultural capital doesn't always live up to all the über cool expectations.

Europe challenges the everyday life of the job seekers. Freedom of movement is reflected in Berlin in increased competition for jobs, housing, parking space, and summer patch of meadow resist. The employers expectations are high. Pro-active approach, good time management and strong self-marketing are required. Everything may not reflect the strengths of C generation (C such Communication) and Millennials. Every person who comes to Berlin without a previously secured work must be really courageous, if he doesn’t want to fall on the modern slave market or the end up in never-ending-internship circle. Who wants to assert and prove here, requires self-knowledge, information, the right strategy and… a smile of luck. Brain-drain can be very profitable for the city once the city will recognize the potential of its migrants.
